Graintec BM-1000 approved
1000Besm.jpgThe Australian National Measurement Institute (NMI) has issued a certificate of Approval for the BM-1000 whole grain analyser.  The approval recognizes the ability of the BM-1000 to measure protein in wheat and barley.
The BM-1000 is a powerful NIR analyser that measures protein and moisture in wheat and barley and provides grain silos and growers with the means to measure the quality of their grain in an efficient and cost effective manner.
Ready access to the BM-1000 instrument with its calibrations for protein and moisture can assist with decisions at harvest including:
• Does the grain meet market standards?
• Which paddocks should be harvested first?
• Should the grain be sold or stored?
• Which paddocks should be mixed to produce optimum protein results?

Another advantage to having NIR instruments on hand is the ability to make quick and effective decisions during harvest negating the need to rely on external laboratories for assistance.
As an analytical tool, the BM-1000 has several advantages over traditional laboratory analysis particularly when testing large sample numbers:
 speed and versatility
 no chemicals required
 easy to operate and cheap to run
 accuracy that is close to reference laboratory method.

Operation of the BM-1000 is simple- a small sample of grain is poured into a hopper and through to the optical chamber where NIT spectra are collected and stored to memory.  The spectra is used to compute the percentage of protein and moisture and the measurement is displayed on the unit at the end of the process.
