The AgraStrip® Allergen kits are now available.  The AgraStrip® test method offers a "rapid" means to detect traces of allergens.  What's more, the AgraStrip® kits are very easy to use and you don't need a lab to run them.
These sensitive and specific tests can be used in the lab or on the production floor.  Using the AgraStrip® kits, traces of potential allergens can be found at different production steps or in the final products, allowing efficient monitoring of critical control points in HACCP or quality management systems.

CRITICAL CONTROL POINTS (CCP) FOR FOOD ALLERGENS
The UK Food Standards Agency recently launched a survey of "may contain" labelling, the blight of many allergic consumers.  Such labelling has a huge impact on the lifestyles of such consumers, with the allergic shopper taking an average of 40% longer to shop, and an additional 10% in costs.  The ‘may contain’ survey is a move towards setting much-needed allergen action levels for industry.
The presence of a number of important allergens, such as milk and peanut, will be measured in products and correlated with labelling statements on the packaging.  Interestingly, the information obtained from the survey will be compared, for the first time, with data from food challenges carried out with allergic patients.  This work could result in the development of risk-based action levels for allergens that food companies can work with when making decisions regarding allergen risk assessment and advisory labelling.
