Are you harvest ready?
In preparing for harvest, it is vital to check that your grain testing equipment is operating correctly. Here are a few things to consider;
Moisture meters: Has your moisture meter been recently serviced/calibrated? If not, you risk the accuracy/performance of the unit.
Protein instrument: If you own a protein grain NIR analyser we recommend it be serviced every 12 months. We will check calibrations, check over the optics and perform QC tests to ensure you are ready for harvest. If you have a trade approved instrument, you may require the unit to be re-certified for trade.
Sieves: Are your sieves in good condition? Also check your sieves for damaged slots. Replace any damaged sieves to ensure you accurately measure screenings.
Insects: Do you have insects in storage? Do you want to prevent insect problems? Click here to view our insect management tools.

Silo Bags - Fumigation
Silo bags can be successfully fumigated & vented (phosphine) when managed correctly.
If growers have infested grain that requires fumigation and no 'sealable' silo storage, or only have grain sheds / pads that are difficult to make gas tight; it is an option to bring a silo bag unit onto the property and fumigate in 240 tonne batches in a standard 75 m silo bag. It is also an option to make a 'short silo bag' for smaller tonnages / batches of infested grain.
In the long run, the best option is for growers to budget on adding at least one or two good quality sealable (AS2628), aerated silos to their grain storage capacity mix so fumigation is a straight forward, effective procedure.

Falling Number
Are you considering the purchase of a falling number unit this year? If so, you need to consider your decision sooner rather than later.
With Viterra purchasing a large number of units, supply of new units may be delayed.
